Today I heard “We are family”, that fabulous anthem by Sister Sledge. All of a sudden I was back in a Japanese restaurant under what was the Hyatt at the Cross, in mid 1991. Josh was having a last weekend in Sydney gathering before he left for Japan. There was food, friends, and a brand new thing for Sydney, Karaoke!
I was feeling particularly unwell, it was the end of term and I’d just finished an horrendous prac. It didn’t stop me going out to Celebrate The Josh though.
Some of Josh’s mates were great singers. Josh and I had enthusiasm, if not talent. Josh and I got up to belt out We are Family, and it was hilarious. I wish I could ring him to ask if he remembers the night!
After that we headed around the corner to Site for Pure Pop, where my sisters did indeed join us. There was lots of laughter when I called off sick and headed home earlier than most. Yes, I was truly sick and that’s a story for another day.
